Keeping Control Of The Funeral Arrangements

A funeral is a gathering that is potentially the most emotional event a family will have to deal with and if you are in charge of the funeral arrangements as the funeral home director then it is up to you to make sure that the funeral arrangements are in accordance with the family’s wishes.  A funeral and the funeral arrangements are sometimes very personal and while you may not understand a family’s intention that does not mean that you are there to pass judgment.  Remember that your job as the person in charge of funeral arrangements is to make sure that the family gets the ceremony the way they want it and that everything goes according to their plan.  It is not your personal tastes that enter into funeral arrangements and that is why being a funeral director can be such a difficult profession.  In some cases funeral arrangements that you see as tasteless may indeed be exactly what the family wants.

In some cases the family is only acting on funeral arrangements left by the deceased in their will.  Many people leave details on what they want for funeral arrangements in their will as their last chance at leaving an impression on friends and family.  Of course funeral arrangements that may involve illegal activities or materials are completely out of the question. But remember that bad taste is not illegal and your job is to make sure everything goes according to the family’s plan.

Acting As A Funeral Arrangements Screener

In some cases something as simple as a funeral flower arrangement may be something that the family does not want even if those flowers come from a close friend of the deceased.  It is incidents like this where funeral directors really earn their money as flowers are not cheap and someone that goes to the expense of sending flowers to a funeral expects those flowers to be used.  If the family refuses to allow those flowers to be displayed then it is up to you to decide what to do with the flowers and what to tell the person that sent them if they should come to the funeral.  Being a funeral director can be a very stressful job.

Many people think that being in charge of funeral arrangements is an easy task that means you can apply the same rules to every funeral.  Funerals are very personal and emotional events and the family is going to want everything perfect for their loved one’s final send off.
